This month’s edition, featuring some Melbourne recs at the end~

matcha ceremony

Black Star Pastry (Chatswood)
Another BSP feature as I slowly work my way through their menu. The Matcha Ceremony is a mousse-y, foamy cake with a strong, smooth matcha flavour.

black angus striploin steak

Restaurant Moon (Darlinghurst)
I've only had about 5 restaurant steaks in my life, & none of them I particularly liked that much. This has been my favourite Steak to date. The downside is that it's only offered on a degustation menu, the rest of which I don't think was great value.

tiramisu

Bistro Kai (Chatswood)
Introducing my new fav Tiramisu. Perfectly balanced, & I’m convinced that sea salt should be a standardised tiramisu seasoning.

melbourne

pain perdu

Homm Dessert (Melbourne CBD)
I had the taro flavour this time but the Pandan pain perdu is still my favourite. Comped because we know the owner 🫢 Insider scoop but they are opening a branch in another city this year... Stay subbed. 😏

seafood stew + chicken curry

🚩Wakuwaku (Melbourne CBD)
I know someone that loves this place (if you're reading this I'm sorry), & it looked good so I wanted to try it.

Probably some of the worst jp food I've had 😭 Strong words, I know. The 🚩curry had spices but was watery & had no salt...? It actually just tasted like warm water with cumin 😭😭 I'm pretty sure the 🚩seafood stew was made with frozen seafood marinara mix, & it was so flavourless too…

The appetiser was good but those mains gave me physic damage, because how do you mess up that badly. 🫠 I do not recommend.

green curry + dry congee

Roslyn Thai Cafe (West Melbourne)
Nothing like sitting by heaters on a cold winter morning & eating wholesome Asian breakfast food.

The Dry Congee was so comforting & delicious. The green curry was a bit spicy for me but good nonetheless. The mandarin cake was sweet and refreshing. The staff members were lovely, keen for my next visit.

disclaimer:
We may have different tastebuds! What I enjoy, you might not. Restaurants perform differently on different days, change over time etc. Wishing you a tasty meal 🎀
